The Italian Dolomites, famous for their difficult and high mountain passes that cut through the jagged peaks. Italian Cycling tours is offering a limited number of places on the Maratona dles Dolomites (Marathon of the Dolomites), one of the biggest fondo events in Italy. What makes the ride so special is the location, high up in the Dolomite mountains surrounded by breath taking scenery.

The long weekend will be based in Badia, a small town up in the Domoites, famous for its sking and its unique local dialect. On the Saturday you will have a day to yourselves to go out and ride some of the course and see the area. Then, on the Sunday, it is the Maratona, a 138km ride that takes in 7 passes with over 4000m of climbing, a course that is challenging and unforgeable with stunning alpine views.

Tour Programme

Friday 02 July 2010 - Arrival in Badia and Preparation Collection of participants from Venice Airport and transfer to your hotel in Badia. Time to unpack; prepare bicycles and equipment for the next two days' group cycling and the 2009 Maratona dles Domomites. If you cannot wait to check out the immediate locality then you can take a short cycle ride on your own or take a stroll through the town.

Saturday 03 July 2010 - Exploration day. Today will be a day for everyone to ride out and check out the course, try a few climbs and generally take it easy before tomorrows Maratona.

Sunday 04 July 2010 - Maratona dles Dolomites A early start for the 06:30 hrs departure of the Maratona for you and the other 8,499 participants. The ride will take in the Passo Campolongo (twice), Passo Pordoi, Passo Sella, Passo Gardena, Passo Giau, Passo Falzarego before finishing in Corvara. Its a challenging ride, should you not wish ride the full route there is 2 shorter routes, at 55km and 106km routes.

Monday 05 July 2010 - Departure from Badia Morning transfer of participants to Venice airport for the return flights home.
